Thursday, April 27, 2006 The Fat Earthling reports on Alien Ying's diet in UK: Part 1

Finally, they get to eat fish! Posted by Picasa
WY (ALien Ying), a fellow foodie and crapper, puts her culinary skills to the test and came up with this delicious looking Asian fish fillet dish.
Her ( was it first attempt?) at cooking chicken rice turns out well.
Can't wait for her to return to SG so that we can make her cook for us!!!

Wednesday, April 26, 2006 Down with Flu and dumb enough not to take MC

I'm down with flu....yes, you might be thinking: "So what?"
For someone who has not been so sick for a long long time. The symptoms hit me like strong waves, like the ones I experienced 6 years ago when I first tried Kayaking. Muscle aches, running nose and a bad headache led to throwing of tantrums at people around me. At this moment, I just wish for my mum's tofu soup and my doggie Bobo.

I had the Tofu soup for lunch last Sun. Just Tofu soup and nothing else. It was an effort on my mum's part to put me on a healthier diet. Seem like her plans backfired when I slurpped down 4 bowls of this with chilies and fried shallots for garnishing. The stock, which was made from dried cod fish and chicken was comforting enough to chase away pre-Monday blues and flu.

Tuesday, April 11, 2006 The Fat Earthling's Bombay Cafe experience

I love Indian Cuisine. I can recognise a dish by its appearance but it takes some effort to recall the name. Anyway, the short earthlings and I went to Bombay Cafe for a light tea that afternoon. The dishes were pleasantly light in flavour, not the strong spicy ones that I was anticipating. Sevice was superb and we were given some generous free dips to taste.

Kukuri Mushrooms: the juicest, freshest mushrooms baked with some cheese and vegetables, in the shell of some special pasty from India.

Vegetable Fried rice: Did I mention that this is a vegetarian restaurant? I was skeptical about how fried rice can taste good without meat but this dish proves that my worries were unfounded.
The rice was fragrant and lightly flavoured and taste so heavenly that we finished the whole plate!

Delicious dips on the house: humus and chickpeas dips

The beverages were defintely visually appealing: Makes me wonder why some famous coffee joints never serve me lovely cappucinos like this. Isn't coffee drinking supposed to be an Art as well? From left to right: Royal Falooda ( a lovely drink with layers of ice-cream, nuts, rose syrup and Falooda (I think they are referring to the "tadpole eggs" or the starch strips at the bottom) , cappucino and chocolate shake

Address: Bombay Cafe, 332 and 334, Tanjong Katong Road, S(437107)
Three thumbs up for this restaurant with its unique interior and excellent food and service.
